What is a home study?
A home study is compiled by an adoption social worker according to the guidelines of your state. It will include information about your family members and their backgrounds, your finances and your motivation to adopt.
We can work with your social worker to inform them of the particular country requirements for your home study.
Who conducts the home study?
The home study must be completed by an adoption professional in your state. Some states allow independent social workers or other mental health/social service personnel to complete home studies, while most states require the home study to be completed by an adoption or home study agency.
CCI can conduct home studies in most areas of Florida. If you are located anywhere else in the United States, please click here for a list of Home Study Agencies. This list is partial and does not include every state or even every agency CCI has worked with. If you cannot find a home study agency in your state, please write to Angela. She can search our former client information to find a home study agency local to you or seek a referral of an agency in your area.
VERY IMPORTANT: CCI is licensed by the State of Florida. Therefore, all home studies of CCI clients must include all aspects required by the State of Florida, as well as those aspects required by the Hague Convention. Please download a list of these requirements by clicking here, and provide them to your social worker. CCI is happy to review your home study prior to finalization. Home studies for review can be sent by the the home study provider or the client to angela@celebratechildren.org.
Note: The home study can be completed before you have contracted with an agency or selected a country, but if you do this you will need to have the home study updated to meet the requirements of the country.
Home Study Fee
When CCI prepares your home study, the home study fee is due at or before the first home study visit. Home studies completed by cooperating agencies are subject to their fees and will be paid directly to that provider. CCI charges a fee to update a home study when an update is necessary due to significant family change or date of completion.
