Guatemala is an exciting program. Referral time is relatively quick and stay in country is short. Guatemala is also very close to the United States. It is only a 3.5 hour plane ride from Miami. It is a great place to bring family members. The country is friendly and easy to get around.
Children Available
• Hispanic boys and girls, infants, toddlers and older children. Sibling groups available. Special needs on request.
Parents' Requirements
• Married couples and single women, 25 years of age or older.
Number of Existing Children of Adoptive Parents
• Number of children already in the home is not defined by law.
Marital Status
• Divorce acceptable; couples should be married at least 1 year.
Referral Time
• Immediate to 3 months after dossier submitted to CCI.
Institution or Foster Care
• Guatemala has both foster care and orphanage care.
Visits Prior to Adoption
• Parents may visit their child prior to adoption. Many parents visit their matched child several times before the adoption is finalized. Some adoptive parents have even stayed in the country by applying for a Visa and renting apartment space. Visitation is not required.
Travel Information
• Parents may travel for 4-6 days. Escort is available.
